Abstract

Digital wallets represent a new tool in the digital transformation of the financial system, facilitating payment and collection operations in real time. This study aims to identify the key factors influencing the intention to use electronic wallets within a global context. To achieve this, the PRISMA systematic review method was applied, which led to the selection of 83 studies from the Scopus, Redalyc, and Scielo databases following a rigorous filtering process. The inclusion criteria focused on quantitative research published between 2022 and 2024, utilizing validated technological models. The descriptive analysis revealed that most studies on electronic wallet adoption are concentrated in Asia, where theoretical frameworks such as the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Unified Theory of Acceptanzce and Use of Technology (UTAUT), along with their extensions, are predominantly employed. Furthermore, the data in these studies are commonly analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). As a primary finding, the research identified five critical factors influencing the intention to use electronic wallets: perceived trust, perceived usefulness, ease of use, social influence, and performance expectation. These elements are essential considerations for stakeholders aiming to enhance and expand digital banking services, ensuring greater adoption and sustained growth in the sector.
