Research skills in health sciences teachers

The research competence of university professors is an important aspect, because they are in charge of training future professionals. The objective of the present study was to determine the research competencies of university health sciences teachers. Basic cross-sectional research carried out in a sample of 169 health sciences teachers from four Peruvian public universities. The data were collected online through a 31-item Likert-type research competency scale that evaluates the dimensions of Identification, generation and scientific dissemination. Statistical analysis was performed with the non-parametric Chi square test. The results show that 70% of the teachers have good research competence and according to the relationship analysis, it can be shown that there is a relationship between the research competence of the university teachers and the university where they carry out their work by obtaining a p- value less than 5%. Likewise, according to dimensions, the lowest competence developed by teachers is scientific dissemination, observing that 27% of the total develop this competence. It is concluded that health sciences teachers have good research competence, but with lower performance in the dissemination dimension.
