Latin America's new global context: trade war, COVID-19, and Russia-Ukraine conflict

This research focuses on globalization in Latin America and how recent events, such as the trade war between the United States and China, the coronavirus pandemic, and the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, have impacted its development. The objective of this research was to study, evaluate, and examine the Konjunkturforschungsstelle globalization index in Latin America between 2000 and 2023. A qualitative and descriptive methodology was employed to analyze and interpret trends in globalization within the region. The results show that, in 2023, globalization levels showed a heterogeneous evolution, with marked differences in the economic, social, and political dimensions. In the economic dimension, Panama leads the region thanks to its strategic role in global trade. In the social dimension, Uruguay and Costa Rica excel in digital connectivity and inclusion. And, in the political dimension, Argentina and Mexico lead due to their participation in multilateral organizations and international agreements. It is concluded that, due to the persistent disparities in Latin America's global integration, it is necessary to implement inclusive policies that strengthen connectivity, promote economic stability, and foster international cooperation to advance more equitable and sustainable development in the region.
