Political trust and citizen satisfaction with democracy are essential pillars for the legitimacy and sustainability of democratic systems. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of political trust on satisfaction with the functioning of democracy in Peru. An Ordered Logit model was applied using data from the 2024 National Household Survey (ENAHO), with a sample of 19,308 individuals aged 18 and over, distributed across all 24 departments of the country. The results show that 79.4 percent of the population expresses dissatisfaction with democracy. The analysis reveals that a negative perception of the Central Government reduces the probability of satisfaction by 14.1 percent, while trust in Congress, political parties, and electoral bodies increases satisfaction by 4.2 percent, 3.9 percent, 1.5 percent, and 1.8 percent, respectively. Additionally, variables such as gender, educational level, extreme poverty, and area of residence significantly influence this perception. The study concludes that the deterioration of institutional trust, exacerbated by political fragmentation, a crisis of representation, and democratic disinformation, constitutes a critical barrier to the consolidation of the democratic system in the country.
