Abstract

The consumption of adequate and balanced food, and constant physical activity are essential to maintain good health. However, adolescents of school age show contrary behavior in their eating and physical routine, which could cause health problems such as being overweight. Therefore, the aims of this research is to determine the relationship between the consumption of processed and ultraprocessed foods, and physical activity in adolescents from a private educational institution. The research is of a basic type, with a quantitative approach, of a non-experimental and correlational design. The study sample consisted of 102 students (46.1% male and 53.9% female) from the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. The Food Intake Frequency Questionnaire was used for the first variable and the PAQ-A Adolescent Physical Activity Questionnaire for the second. The results reveal that 75.5% of adolescents have a monthly consumption of 1-3 times of processed and ultra-processed foods; likewise, 48% of students have physical activity between low and very low. It is concluded that the relationship between the consumption of processed and ultraprocessed foods and physical activity is inverse (Spearman's Rho: -0.356), since adolescents with a higher consumption of processed and ultra-processed foods show less physical activity.
